WHO ARE WE?

Hot Dish Magazine is an annual online literary and visual artistry journal that features a mixture of written works and studio art from high school and college students, collected from all over the U.S. The magazine is edited by undergraduate students from various disciplines at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Many students, whether hoping to achieve a career in the vast world of the arts, or those who simply enjoy the freedom found in creating something and expressing themselves, should have the opportunity to be noticed and appreciated. The purpose of Hot Dish Magazine is to give a voice to those who want to be heard and a platform to display the passion of our younger generations.

WHAT ARE OUR GOALS?

We want to give high school and college students the opportunity to publish their work and showcase their voices. We want to provide an opportunity for students across the country to grow as writers and artists, and to be a welcoming place for them to feel supported and encouraged to pursue their love for the arts.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Passion. Different perspectives. Individuality. We want work that offers new perspectives and has the potential to be inspiration for others. The formal guidelines for our submissions categories can be found here.)

WHAT DO WE WANT TO DO FOR YOUNG WRITERS? TEACHERS? READERS?

Our magazine opens doors for readers and artists in the Midwest and beyond to a multitude of viewpoints, experiences, and perspectives. We are dedicated to promoting literary and visual art advocacy by supporting young talent and encouraging activity in the arts within schools.
